Lockton Community Orchard
Lockton Parish Council is pleased to announce that a 5 year agreement for a new Community Orchard has been signed with the NYMNP. Works will be going ahead in the autumn/winter in conjunction with the NYMNP Grubs Up! Project and will involve new fencing and hedging, fruit tree planting, and under planting with wildflower plugs.
The blue hashed line shows th area of the new community orchard. The red line is the new fence and hedge which will separate the area from the cricket pitch. A gate will be included to give vehicle access when needed. Pedestrian access will be via the footpath to the side of the cemetery.
On-going maintenance of the area will be a community led volunteer project. This will include mowing paths, cut and collect of the year’s growth, fruit tree pruning and other general maintenance of the area. The Grubs Up! Project can provide some informal pruning training and plant surveying advice for volunteers. Further plans include seating and information boards so residents and visitors can enjoy the community space.
There is already a team of keen volunteers/residents supporting the Orchard.
If you would like to volunteer to help with this project please contact the Parish Council via the website www.lockton-pc.gov.uk or speak to Councillor Ruth Phillips.
